A grade percentage is simply earned ÷ total × 100. Scoring 47 out of 50 means 47 ÷ 50 × 100 = 94%. That maps to a letter grade based on whatever scale your institution uses.

Some schools use a 10-point scale where A = 90+, B = 80+, etc. Always check your syllabus.
If a course has several components with different weights (homework 20%, midterm 30%, final 50%), the overall grade is the weighted average:
overall = (HW × 0.20) + (midterm × 0.30) + (final × 0.50)
If you have 85% on homework, 78% on the midterm, and 91% on the final:
= 85 × 0.20 + 78 × 0.30 + 91 × 0.50
= 17 + 23.4 + 45.5
= 85.9% (B)
To find the score needed on a final exam to achieve a target overall grade:
needed = (target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight
If your current grade is 84% and the final is worth 40%, and you want an A− (90%):
= (90 − 84 × 0.60) ÷ 0.40
= (90 − 50.4) ÷ 0.40
= 99%
That’s how scoring high on the final affects the overall grade.
Divide points earned by points possible, then multiply by 100. For 47 out of 50: 47 ÷ 50 × 100 = 94%.
On the standard US scale, 87% is a B+. The B+ range is typically 87–89.9%. Some schools use a 10-point scale where 87% is solidly in the B range (80–89.9%).
Multiply each component grade by its weight (as a decimal), then sum the results. If homework (20%) = 85%, midterm (30%) = 78%, final (50%) = 91%, then overall = 0.20×85 + 0.30×78 + 0.50×91 = 85.9%.
It depends on the institution. Most US universities consider 60% the passing threshold (D−). Some courses or graduate programs require 70% (C−) or higher. Check your syllabus.
Use the formula: needed = (target − current × (1 − final_weight)) ÷ final_weight. For example, if you have 65% going into a final worth 30%, and you need 70% overall: needed = (70 − 65 × 0.70) ÷ 0.30 = 81.7%.
